passage
In dark hours, I see you
and now myself with you.
Warmth surrounds me as visions of our roots
entwining cloak me — fill me — leave me.
The road bends as we walk on the surface of the earth,
sensing, I anticipate you
and you smile —
With you, I am home.
The branches make our canopy,
and the earth, the swept floor of our home.
With time, I am learning we are not apart
but a part of the whole.
— a squinted smile.
What substance is behind those eyes?
I am whole.
Lying now, you anticipate me.
Exploring secret regions,
only shadows of the brush and
dim starlight as guides.
Lower, you respect me.
We breathe in sage
and watch the same shooting star.
For a moment,
we are open
and for a moment
you grant passage.
I see behind those eyes.
We are the stars;
your beauty is mine.
